Prolific shoplifter jailed after double chocolate theft

A shoplifter with a 'prolific history' of thefts has been jailed for six weeks after admitting he stole chocolate twice from Sainsbury's in Cheltenham.

Andrew Page, 31, of Grove Street, Cheltenham, pleaded guilty at the town's magistrates court to theft of £28.35 worth of dairy milk chocolate from Sainsbury's on October 20, 2023, and six trays of Ferrero Rocher worth £42 from Sainsbury's on February 23, 2024.

He also admitted failing to surrender to bail at an earlier court hearing.

The magistrates said there had to be a custodial term because of Page's 'prolific history of similar offences of dishonesty.'

He was also ordered to pay full compensation for the stolen chocolates.
