VIDEO: Last piece of Gloucester Quays for sale

Gloucester-based Numold is to sell its canalside property in the middle of Gloucester Quays after 30 years.

The building, on a 0.5 acre site, is a prime development location. It is the last piece in the jigsaw for Gloucester Quays, with the historic docks as a backdrop.

There has been manufacturing on the site since the 1850s, with the canal at the heart of the industry.

Numold, which was founded in 1978, produces specialist moulds for wet cast concrete, selling to over 40 countries worldwide and keeping British heritage alive.

The family firm has 11 staff and has been based at Gloucester Docks since 1993. Numold's large lorries send moulds around the world to the Philippines, Thailand, Australia, Nigeria and across Europe.

Now the manufacturer and exporter is set to move from its waterfront building on Merchants Road to another premises in the city.

Running a manufacturing business in the middle of a shopping centre, which was built around Numold's premises in 2003, has been challenging.

But there has already been interest from buyers for the property, which is situated next to Pillar and Lucy House and directly opposite the cinema and Five Guys.

As Gloucester Quays celebrates its 15th anniversary, boosted by record sales for the year to March 2024, the Numold site will be an attractive investment for potential developers.

It is the last piece of freehold property on the whole site and Numold believes it has the potential to be the jewel in the crown of the waterside living area. Work is due to start soon on a landmark 10-storey building at Baker's Quay, right next to Numold's site.

Sue Jones, owner of Numold, said: "It will be interesting to see who will make this prime location something Gloucester will be proud of. Perhaps a boutique hotel with waterfront restaurant and apartments with balconies with the beautiful sunsets over Llanthony Priory? Watch this space!"
