Carpet retailer to axe head office jobs

Carpetright is set to cut more than 25% of its head office jobs.

The retailer, which has a store in Cheltenham, has informed staff that around 70 jobs will be lost across its field management teams and central support centre, as reported by Retail Gazette.

Carpetright said the job cuts in areas such as warehousing, distribution and IT will allow it to reduce its cost base by about £22m.

The retailer has reported big losses for the last two years, as consumer demand for big-ticket items like carpets slowed during the cost-of-living crisis.

The company said its top priority is supporting staff affected by the process.

Carpetright is just the latest in a long line of companies cutting head office jobs, with Lloyds Banking Group and Ted Baker among those announcing job losses in recent weeks.
